Oil Tycoon T. Boone Pickens: Wind Could Supply 20% of America’s Power in 10 Years

Eighty-year-old Dallas oil man T. Boone Pickens has just delivered an ambitious, Texas-sized energy plan to the whole of America, in which he claims that wind could supply 20 percent of the nation's power within 10 years.
The proposal went live today at www.pickensplan.com.
You may recall that the nation's own Department of Energy proposed that same target -- in double the time.
So what's the Pickens secret? First, generate enough wind power so that America no longer needs natural gas for its power needs. And then use that natural gas to power a full one-third of the US vehicle fleet.

To put it plainly, T. Boone Pickens is out to save America.
While somewhat enamored with the Pickens way, Pope also admits that plug-in hybrids -- not cars powered by compressed natural gas, or CNG -- are, of course, the better long-term solution to help wean America off imported oil.
And for many, the CNG piece of the plan is going to be the deal breaker.
But the Pickens premise is an inarguable one, and worth a read, or a viewing here.
In sum: America is importing 70 percent of its oil. That's up from 42 percent in 1991 and 24 percent in 1970. The cost? Some $700 billion each year.
Pickens predicts that figure will rise to $1 trillion in no time at all. Food for thought:
Projected over the next 10 years the cost will be $10 trillion — it will be the greatest transfer of wealth in the history of mankind.
Foolish. Especially when you consider that the US wind corridor is a virtually untapped national energy source. It's perfectly situated in the middle of the country, which means it can power the American center, east and west.
Pickens is not just a talker. He's building the biggest wind power farm in the world right now in Pampa, Texas. It will be four times larger than the current #1 in America.
You've got to admit (whatever your feelings about natural gas), T. Boone Pickens offers a wildly enticing vision of America's clean energy future.
And that's something sorely lacking in Washington.

Alternative Source of energy.
I like this alternative source of energy. Wind is so abundant much like the sun. If we can use wind to power all appliances and cars we will have the greatest energy saving plan. More likely it can help us save gas for fuel powered cars.
