An Earth Day Job Hunt

Want to start a farm at a high school and become a groundwork coordinator? There may be a job waiting for you in Massachusetts. Look at this notice that ended up in my "in" box today, Earth Day:
Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School, an independent high school located in Waltham, MA, seeks a Groundwork Coordinator. The vision of Groundwork is to create a farm to serve as an experiential education facility for the school.....It is the responsibility of this individual to design and oversee the creation of the farm and crop plans and assist in the integration of the Groundwork program into the curriculum.
Sounds like a great job, and lots more of those jobs are going to be available in the future, for sure.
But surf on over to a web site called Coal Miners for Hire and the job hunting turns awfully grim. Here's one sample:
My name is _____. I've been looking for a mining job now for 3 yrs. I have an 80 hr course and 8 hr refresher course. I worked 1 day for Richwood Industries repairing conveyor belts and they ran out of work. I would love for someone to just give me a chance. I will work as many hours as possible just please someone give me a chance. I'll work anywhere that is hiring.
That was posted on October 26 of last year. Wonder if he ever found a job. Or this fellow, who wanted to be closer to family.
My name is _____________. I just received my underground card and passed my drug screening this week (March 3, 2008). I have applied for work at several coal companies in VA and KY. Both of my brothers are coal miners in Harlan, Kentucky and I am trying to get in too. My father retired from mining several years ago. Currently I live in Indiana and work as a construction foreman on a water pipe crew, but work with that company is slowing down. I have 10 years experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, back hoes, bull dozers, pan trucks, and others. I work hard every day and am not afraid of getting dirty. I want to relocate my family to the Harlan, Kentucky area to be closer to my parents and brothers. Please help me find SOMEONE to give me a chance!

Surf a little on your own, there, and elsewhere, and decide for yourself where the future lies. Don't need an economist or the latest unemployment figures or fresh campaign promises to figure it out.
