Ooops! Climate Deniers' NY Conference a Big Blunder

In his immortal hit New York, New York, Frank Sinatra croons:
And if I can make it there, I'm gonna make it anywhere
He doesn't sing about the other possibility, which is the oblivion of failure that New York can also confer -- as it did last week upon the Heartland Institute and its International Climate Deniers Conference.
They swaggered into town on the back of an expensive full-page ad in the New York Times and a favorable editorial preview provided for free by fellow-travellers at the Wall Street Journal -- and skipped town three days later exposed, ignored, ashamed and ridiculed.
They didn't make it here, and making it anywhere has now gotten that much harder.
What an arrogant miscalculation! They were better off scattered in their pockets of annoyance, forcing everyone to play whack-a-mole whenever they reared their heads, securing quotes in the media, placing op-eds in newspapers around the country, spreading misinformation in small doses.
But then they decided to hold a convention in the glare of the media capital of the world, and made it easy to dispose of their warped agenda with a single flush.
They had offered to pay the way of any legislators to attend. They demonstrated how pathetic is their cause when they gave a standing ovation to the one ranking international luminary they could attract -- that household name -- Vaclav Klaus, the president of the Czech Republic. And they released their silly denialist manifesto for all the world to see. It begins:
Now, therefore, we recommend: That world leaders reject the views expressed by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as well as popular, but misguided works such as “An Inconvenient Truth.”
Sure. Show up in New York and tell the world to erase the Nobel prize. And an Oscar.
The final verdict was best captured in this headline: Networks Ignore, Newspapers Mock NY Climate Change Conference.
