Solving Climate, One Candle at a Time

You can't make this stuff up. Green Hannukia, an internet campaign founded by a group of Israeli environmentalists, is urging Jews to light at least one less candle this Hanukkah season.

“The campaign calls for Jews around the world to save the last candle and save the planet, so we won’t need another miracle,” said Liad Ortar, the campaign’s co-founder.

Nice, even though some rabbinical authorities are none too pleased about the suggested revision to sacred, age-old practice. Then there's Avraham Ravitz, a member of the Israeli government, quoted in the Jerusalem Post trying to one-up the green menorah campaign.

"They should encourage people to light one less cigarette instead," Ravitz said.

And finally, there's this recyclable dreidel to offset emissions.

Oy vey.
