Iowa's Hunters Are Getting Worried

Candidates and their stumpers may want to take a hard look at this new poll from the National Wildlife Federation. It found that the crux of Iowa’s hunters and anglers -- the mainstream of conservative America -- are greatly concerned about climate change. Seventy-five percent want the US to be a global leader on the issue. The results echo NWF’s nationwide findings.
It's new but not suprising. Hunting and fishing are big pieces of Iowa’s economic base, and one-third of the Iowans polled said they’ve already witnessed changes to wildlife. Eighty-four percent said that investing in renewable energy technologies is the way to go. And 90 percent are still unsure of who will earn their vote come caucus day. Will they vote with climate in mind?
Could very well be. It's the same story for the rest of the 40 million sportsmen and sportswomen across America. We're talking about traditionally conservative voters who are expressing stronger and stronger support for climate leadership in the White House.
Sounds like another powerful group of conservative Americans who are following a similar trend. The people of faith, especially the Evangelical community, whose climate activism has started to rattle the political cohesion of the religious right. You rally these two groups together to put climate first, and you may just rattle the outcome of 2008, for the better.
