Governors Tell Auto Industry to Drop Legal Challenges

Thirteen governors sent a letter to the CEOs of the major auto companies today and told them what President Bush should have told them himself when he had them face-to-face for meetings in the Oval office: "We do not believe it is productive for your industry to continue to fight state implementation of clean tailpipe standards....and we ask that you withdraw your legal challenges....and begin working with us to meet our joint obligations to begin reversing the threat of global warming."

It's a beautiful letter, complete with state seals and signatures from the governors of Arizona, California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah and Washington.
